About
Organised by Dr Maria Alonso Alonso, the international conference 'Language and Violence' took place at the University of Vigo, Spain, 16-17 January 2020. This event explored the way in which violence appears to have impregnated contemporary literary discourse. The destruction of the environment, animal cruelty, social and gender brutality, amongst others, are some of the most obscene manifestations of human violence. The conference aimed to identify the discursive codes that perpetuate violence through notions of subalternity, oppression, hegemonic power and class struggle.
Programme
This conference was supported by Language Acts and Worldmaking, and the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela.
