Routes into Languages East, supported by a Language Acts and Worldmaking Small Grant, has launched its Mother Tongue Other Tongue poetry competition:

A tried and tested multilingual poetry competition that celebrates cultural diversity and the many languages currently spoken in secondary schools that was crested by Routes into Languages North West and is run in the Eastern region this year by Routes into Languages East in partnership sponsored by the OWRI Language Acts and Worldmaking project and supported by Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge.
THE ROUTES EAST COMPETITION
Open to: 11-18 year olds (Years 7-13)
Age categories are as follows:
* KS3 (Secondary years 7,8,9)
* KS4 (Secondary years 10,11)
* KS5 (Secondary years 12,13)
Each school can enter the 2 best entries from each year group. The deadline is Monday 22nd July. All entries must be accompanied by a Mother Tongue Other Tongue 2019 Entry Cover Sheet. Shortlisted entries will be selected by a panel of judges and will receive certificates. Winners will receive trophies. All shortlisted poems will feature in the Mother Tongue Other Tongue poetry anthology, generously sponsored by the OWRI Language Acts and Worldmaking Project and participating schools will be invited to a Celebration Event on Wednesday 16th October 4.00 - 8.00 at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge as part of the Cambridge Festival of Ideas 2019 (tbc).
